A ShareGate alternative for SharePoint and OneDrive
ShareGate is the market reference and covers far more than SharePoint. If your project is limited to SharePoint, OneDrive and file shares, you may be paying for modules you do not need, and for a full year.
Short answer
ShareGate Migrate costs $5,995 to $17,995 depending on the plan, with at least a one-year term, and also covers Teams, Exchange, Google Workspace and Entra ID. Tauri Migration focuses on SharePoint, OneDrive and file shares, with a monthly or annual subscription per client that can end with the project.

How much does ShareGate cost?
ShareGate Migrate comes in three plans, priced “starting at”, for a 1, 2 or 3-year term (10% off over 2 years, 15% over 3):
- Essentials, $5,995: SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, Planner and file shares, for organisations of up to 250 employees, on one workstation and one migration at a time.
- Pro, $9,995: adds Exchange Online, Google Workspace, Box and Entra ID, up to 1,000 employees, 5 workstations and 5 concurrent migrations.
- Enterprise, $17,995: over 1,000 employees, 25 workstations, 24/7 priority support.
The price makes sense when the whole organisation moves: mailboxes, Teams, identities and documents in one tool. It weighs more when only documents move, or when the project lasts six weeks rather than a year.
The real cost in three common cases
| Case | Tauri Migration | ShareGate Migrate |
|---|---|---|
| One consultant, a 6-week SharePoint and OneDrive migration, 200 employees | €500 excl. VAT (2 months) | $5,995 (Essentials, 1 year) |
| A service firm, 4 clients migrated in the year, 2-month engagement each | €2,000 excl. VAT (4 licences, 2 months each) | 4 one-year licences, one per client project, i.e. $23,980 on Essentials, or partner pricing on quote |
| A 600-employee company merging two tenants, documents only | €1,500 excl. VAT (1 seat, 1 year) | $9,995 (Pro: Essentials stops at 250 employees) |
Tauri Migration prices in euros, excluding VAT; ShareGate list prices in US dollars, before discounts. One seat is enough for most projects: SharePoint limits throughput per tenant, not per computer.
What ShareGate does better
- One tool for all of Microsoft 365. Mailboxes, Teams, Planner, Entra ID identities and Purview sensitivity labels move along with documents.
- Sources beyond Microsoft. Google Workspace (Drive, Gmail, Calendar) and Box are supported today.
- A suite beyond migration. ShareGate Protect adds tenant governance once the project is over.
- A large installed base. Many administrators already know it, with extensive documentation and community.
What Tauri Migration does differently
One licence per client, for the length of the engagement
As with ShareGate, each end client has its own licence. The difference is the term: the monthly subscription ends with the engagement, instead of a one-year commitment per client. A service firm pays for each migration in proportion to its length and passes the cost on easily.
Several projects in parallel
Each project has its own resume database, reports and log. Several projects run at once on the same seat, and throttling is handled per tenant: sites and OneDrive accounts of a tenant share one quota, and the tool handles them together. How the tool handles throttling.
Re-runs that re-check the target
On every incremental pass, the tool reads what really exists in the target. A file, folder or list deleted by mistake after the first pass is sent again, even if unchanged at the source. The final pass on cut-over night leaves no gaps.
Versions, taxonomy and permissions, with no hidden settings
Version history is replayed in order, with original authors and dates. The term store moves between tenants with an ID mapping table. Built-in permission levels are matched by type, which handles sites in different languages. Details: preserving version history, migrating the term store, migrating permissions.
Both ways with file servers
A file share moves to SharePoint or OneDrive, and a SharePoint library can also go back to a file share, for archiving or leaving Microsoft 365.
When to choose ShareGate
- Your project also moves mailboxes, Teams or Entra ID identities, and you want one tool for everything.
- Your source is Google Workspace or Box today.
- Your sites rely on modern pages, web parts or workflows that must be carried over: Tauri Migration does not migrate them today.
- You need the governance features of the ShareGate suite after the migration.
When to choose Tauri Migration
- The project covers SharePoint sites, OneDrive accounts or file servers, and identity and mail are handled elsewhere.
- You are a consultant or a service firm and your migration engagements last a few weeks: each client has its licence for the length of the engagement.
- The project lasts a few weeks: the monthly subscription ends with it.
- The organisation has more than 250 employees, but only documents change tenant.
- You want content to travel only through your workstation and Microsoft.
Switching from ShareGate to Tauri Migration
- Reuse your identity table. A ShareGate account mapping converts to Tauri Migration’s format (
Type;Source;Target) in minutes, with domain, user and group rows. - List your source and target pairs. Hundreds of site, OneDrive or folder pairs can be entered in an Excel workbook, checked row by row before import.
- Run a first pass on the already filled target. A file already copied by ShareGate is not duplicated: it is compared by date and only replaced if it is older than the source.
- Finish incrementally. Later passes only send what is new, what changed and what is missing in the target.
